That chowder, amazing! No other words. Very filling, no potatoes And the turtle cheese cake just as good. It has a feels like home atmosphere, small little restaurant and really nice!

Very nice service. The seafood chowder is every bit as delicious as they make it out to be and excellent seafood-to-broth ratio. As with most Cape Breton restaurants, not really any vegetarian options aside from grilled cheese otherwise I'd give it 5 stars!

Best seafood chowder! Very warm and friendly!!

My husband and I made sure to stop by this sweet little restaurant on our way back to the mainland from our stay in Cheticamp. The staff was so friendly, and the atmosphere warm and inviting; the quote board across the top of one wall reminded me of some of the places I've worked. The chowder was incredible, so full of fresh seafood and worth every penny, and the lobster roll was definitely a classic not to be missed. My family looks forward to making it out to Cape Breton again, and we will definitely make sure we stop at Charlenes once more!

Chowder best on the Island.

Absolutely wonderful fresh chowder with homemade biscuit was a meal in itself. I did have a bit of room left for coconut cream pie. My wife had the lobster roll. First but not the last visit for sure.v

The food was good but service was terrible. After an hour of waiting we asked how much longer. The answer was, WHENEVER, we complained to another waitress about that answer and she went to kitchen and came back with just a few more minutes, because it would take an hour to get to another place to eat we stayed.

This was a wonderful restaurant! The seafood chowder was the best I've ever had. Chocked full of lobster, crab and scallops. Creamy and delicious! Fish and chips and the lobster roll also fabulous. I'm sorry I didn't have room for desert because they also looked to die for. Service also excellent.

Stopped in by chance on our way back to Ontario and OMG are we happy we stopped. The service was super friendly the food was way past expectations. The chowder was out of this world. The lobster roll tasted great as did the club sandwiches. Then came the bread pudding and shortcakes. What a great ending to and truly enjoyable meal for our family. Well, it was the best seafood chowder ever! No potatoes, no fillers, all seafood. Well worth the price! It might not look like much from the outside, but do go in and try their fabulous chowder! You won't regret it, yum!

Stop there back there in late August just before we start our drive on the Cabot Trail. All we can say is the Chowder is delicious. Full of seafood and no potatoes. It was so good that we made a second stop on the way out.

Wow! Charlene's seafood chowder is astonishing delicious, with scallops, small shrimp, several types of fish, cream (but not too much) in the milk, secret subtle spices, and a crab claw in the middle. It's a prize winner in the midst of many other delicious menu offerings. And check out the home cooked desserts. Wow!

What a wonderful delight to find this place while traveling. They were very accommodating to my dietary needs with celiac disease. It was a WONDERFUL crab roll on gluten free bread and an AMAZING bowl of seafood chowder, also GF!!! Thank you Charlene and staff!

The seafood chowder lives up to its name! It was amazing and no wonder it's award winning. I recently visited with a group of three and none of us even opened our menus - we just went straight for the chowder. Highly recommended establishment! Will definitely be visiting again next time I'm in the area!

Seafood chowder was ok but not 37$ for two bowls and water and not including the tip 😲 we where shocked!

The lobster claw in each bowl of seafood chowder is rare and the tastes heavenly. I found the portion in the seafood basket enough for 2 meals. Everything delicious but the coconut shrimp a REAL treat. Don’t drive by.

There has never been a better chowder made

The food was good, but a lot of coming and going so keep your coat on in the winter. Also there were more employees then actual people in the restaurant. Asked for my bill and they were too busy chatting to each other for me to get it. I mean I might stop there again if it was the only place for hours and was really hungry.

Biggest lobster roll ever! Just full to overflowing with big chunks of lobster. The chowder was amazing. Never had it without potatoes before. Want it that way all the time now.

Love this place so much. Had to come back again. Seafood chowder is to die for. Plus they don't add potatoes like most places. This makes it a great tasting experience. Highly recommended.

I can't believe any of the reviews that say they aren't friendly. They went out of their way to make us feel at home and the seafood chowder was amazing! This would be the first place I recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Cool staff, nice ambiance, good food.

Their chowder is, hands down, the best chowder I have ever had. Full to the brim with fresh haddock, scallops and lobster and the broth was the perfect consistency and flavor.No wonder it has won awards :)Also, save room for their desserts - you will not regret it.
